This book is about music; uncertainty; sitting on a ledge; night trains across Russia; Bill Drummond; drunken mercenaries on the former German Sea; starting again; a classroom of 13 year-olds; getting everything done before death; art; a river full of headless eels; girl pop; waking up to find that all music had disappeared & a choir called The17

In 2008 Bill Drummond wrote and allowed Beautiful Books to publish the 410 paged hardback book called 17. It was case-bound and in two colours throughout and sold for £12.99, (i.e. definitely not £13).

Beautiful Books entered dire straits, hit the rocks, foundered, and went bankrupt. Unbeknownst to the author, Alimentation drove to the warehouse, walked past The Liquidator and made off with the remaining stock of the book which was subsequently impounded by The Authorities for some 18 years.

These copies sat waiting in the dark cupboard until they came back into season. The season opens on Sunday the 11th of October, commensurate with the Damsons entering their two week picking season in the Vale of Aylesbury.

Limited stocks of the book are available at £18 each – restricted to one book per order, with no limits set on the amount of separate orders.

We trust no-one just bought that second hand copy from eBay for £50

THIS IS NOT THE SMALL PRINT – Please note the following:

  1. This is a large and heavy book, hence the cost of shipping.
  2. The books are in as-new condition – they will ship in a suitable package but Alimentation cannot be held responsible for careless handling in transit once they have left the Royal Mail sorting office. There will be none of the usual gratis returns if the book arrives damaged.
  3. New draconian measures are now in place when shipping from the UK + NI into any EU territory. Normally this could add £13 on top of the current shipping cost. These measures do not apply to one-off gifts. We will parcel such books as gifts in an attempt to avoid the shipping VAT, the customs duty, tariffs and handling fees. However, this may carry a certain element of risk….better the risk than not shipping to the EU at all. These special shipping measures require a great deal more work, plus a human queue at The Post Office, so bear with us on this.
  4. No package will ship before the 11th of October
